Understanding the seven trumpets (Revelation 8 and 9)

We are going to have a look at the Trumpets of Revelation 8 and 9. Before we deal with the chapters in Revelation, we want to see what the Bible connects with an understanding of the trumpets. We are going to go through each of these Bible passages and see what trumpets are connected with:

Assembly and Alarm: Numbers 10:1–10—

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Make thee two trumpets of silver; of a whole piece shalt thou make them: that thou mayest use them for the calling of the assembly, and for the journeying of the camps.
3 And when they shall blow with them, all the assembly shall assemble themselves to thee at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation.
4 And if they blow but with one trumpet, then the princes, which are heads of the thousands of Israel, shall gather themselves unto thee.
5 When ye blow an alarm, then the camps that lie on the east parts shall go forward.
6 When ye blow an alarm the second time, then the camps that lie on the south side shall take their journey: they shall blow an alarm for their journeys.
7 But when the congregation is to be gathered together, ye shall blow, but ye shall not sound an alarm.
8 And the sons of Aaron, the priests, shall blow with the trumpets; and they shall be to you for an ordinance for ever throughout your generations.
9 And if ye go to war in your land against the enemy that oppresseth you, then ye shall blow an alarm with the trumpets; and ye shall be remembered before the LORD your God, and ye shall be saved from your enemies.
10 Also in the day of your gladness, and in your solemn days, and in the beginnings of your months, ye shall blow with the trumpets over your burnt offerings, and over the sacrifices of your peace offerings; that they may be to you for a memorial before your God: I am the LORD your God.
The first things we want to see is that the Trumpets are connected with an assembly and an alarm; the calling of a sacred assembly and an alarm.
Holy Convocation: Leviticus 23:24–25—
24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
So first the Trumpets are connected with the calling of a sacred assembly; the calling of an alarm; and now calling a holy convocation.
Deliverance: Leviticus 25:9–13—
9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
2
11 A jubile shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.
12 For it is the jubile; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.
13 In the year of this jubile ye shall return every man unto his possession.
So the blowing of the trumpet was a sign of deliverance. So the Trumpets are connected with the calling of a sacred assembly; an alarm; and a holy convocation, and here, deliverance.
One of the things we read in Leviticus was that when a trumpet was blown, the people were to make an offering by fire unto the Lord. Now when you think of making an offering by fire unto the Lord, that sacrifice consumes—it does not increase—does it? We are going to see something very clearly; we believe that we are in the time of the Third Woe. We believe that we are really in the time of the Seventh Trumpet. We believe that the Millerite History is being repeated to the very letter. We are in the time when we should be making a sacrifice unto the Lord, not increasing, but consuming our goods for the work—Amen?

A Day of Wrath and Distress: Zephaniah 1:14–18

1:14 The great day of the LORD is near, it is near, and hasteth greatly, even the voice of the day of the LORD: the mighty man shall cry there bitterly.
15 That day is a day of wrath, a day of trouble and distress, a day of wasteness and desolation, a day of darkness and gloominess, a day of clouds and thick darkness,
16 A day of the trumpet and alarm against the fenced cities, and against the high towers.
17 And I will bring distress upon men, that they shall walk like blind men, because they have sinned against the LORD: and their blood shall be poured out as dust, and their flesh as the dung.
18 Neither their silver nor their gold shall be able to deliver them in the day of the LORD'S wrath; but the whole land shall be devoured by the fire of his jealousy: for he shall make even a speedy riddance of all them that dwell in the land.
Brethren, the Trumpet is connected with the day of wrath and distress; troubling of the nations. Now with this background, let’s build on the Trumpets. Now there is one more thing that we need to understand that is connected to the Trumpets and we’ll take this from William Miller. Trumpets also represent the downfall of an Empire, the bringing the end of an Empire.

The Downfall of an Empire

“In prophetical scripture, the sounding of trumpets is always used to denote the downfall of some empire, nation, or place, or some dreadful battle, which may decide the fate of empires, nations, or places. . . .
“The last three trumpets will claim our attention in his discourse; the first four having their accomplishment under Rome Pagan; to the last three under Rome Papal. These three trumpets and three woes are a description of the judgments that God has sent and will send on this Papal beast, the abomination of the whole earth.” William
Miller’s Works, volume 2, page 115–116.

The blowing of the trumpets represents the downfall of an Empire. Now in the book of Revelation chapter 8, we are going to look at the Pioneer position of the Trumpets as found on the bottom right hand corner of the 1843 and 1850 chart, representing the First, Second and Third Woes. We can’t have the Third woe without the Second, or the Second without the First and you can’t have those Trumpets without the first four. We are going to look at the Pioneer position in the Bible and in History and walk through the history of these trumpets.
3
One thing about the Trumpets for those who have never studied the Trumpets, as we read through the Trumpets themselves, there is always reference to a third of men, or a third part of something being hurt or destroyed. We need to have an understanding why the Bible is saying that. We also need to understand that Revelation 8 and 9 goes together with Daniel 2 and 7.
We know in Daniel 2, Pagan Rome is represented by the legs of Iron and Pagan Rome split into East and West. In Daniel 7, we know that the Ten Horns on Pagan Rome’s Beast represents how Pagan Rome split into Ten. How did that happen? Why did Pagan Rome split into East and West? Why did it disintegrate into Ten? This is the Story of the Trumpets.
We know that in the year 330 AD, Constantine moved from the city of Rome to Constantinople —so dividing the Empire into East and West. The reason that Constantine split the Empire into Two was because there were attacks from the Barbarians and he thought that by splitting the Empire into two it would strengthen the Kingdom, but it brought its demise.
Also Pagan Rome not only split into East and West, but it also split into three.
“The Roman Empire, after Constantine, was divided into three parts; and hence the frequent remark, "a third part of men," etc., in allusion to the third part of the empire which was under the scourge. This division of the Roman kingdom was made at the death of Constantine, among his three sons, Constantius, Constantine II, and Constans. Constantius possessed the East, and fixed his residence at Constantinople, the metropolis of the empire. Constantine the Second held Britain, Gaul, and Spain. Constans held Illyricum, Africa, and Italy.” Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation, 479.
So his three sons received part of the Empire two of his sons had parts of the West and one had the part of the East. So as we go through the Bible it says a third part was destroyed, it is referring to either a part of the West or a part of the East.
So let’s go through the Bible and turn to Revelation 8:6, 7; “And the seven angels which had the seven trumpets prepared themselves to sound. 7 The first angel sounded, and there followed hail and fire mingled with blood, and they were cast upon the earth: and the third part of trees was burnt up, and all green grass was burnt up.”
We need to understand the first four Trumpets bring the demise of the Western Pagan Roman Empire. The first was Alaric of the Goths.

The First Trumpet—Goths
Alaric—395
“The first sore and heavy judgment which fell on Western Rome in its downward course, was the war with the Goths under Alaric, who opened the way for later inroads. The death of Theodosius, the Roman emperor, occurred in January, 395, and before the end of the winter the Goths under Alaric were in arms against the empire.” Uriah Smith, Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation, 478.
Historically, Alaric was the first of the trumpets the Lord used to bring down the Western Roman Empire. One thing to note here is the Bible says that under Alaric, the Earth was smitten.
Under the Second Trumpet we have Genseric; Revelation 8:8, 9: “And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; 9 And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.”
The Bible denotes that this Trumpet is represented as a great mountain burning with fire. The First Trumpet, Alaric, was as hail mingled with blood and the hail denoted where he came from; he came from the North, the cold regions; whereas the Second Trumpet, which are the Vandals under Genseric, came from Northern Africa, a hot region—a mountain burning with fire.
4
We have a quotation here from Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation which gives you the Pioneer understanding of the history behind this Trumpet.

The Second Trumpet—Vandals
Genseric—428–468
“If the sounding of the first four trumpets relates to four remarkable events which contributed to the downfall of the Roman Empire, and the first trumpet refers to the ravages of the Goths under Alaric, in this we naturally look for the next succeeding act of invasion which shook the Roman power and conduced to its fall. The next great invasion was that of ‘the terrible Genseric,’ at the head of the Vandals. His career occurred during the years A.D. 428–468.” Uriah Smith, Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation, 481.
So Alaric, the First Trumpet came from the North the cold region and was represented as hail. That was in the year 395. The Second Trumpet was Genseric and the Vandals and they came from Northern Africa, a hot region; hence, a great mountain burning with fire. The mode of warfare of the Vandals was they battled on the sea—there were naval battles that took place and so the text says the third part of the sea was smitten.
Continuing in Revelation 8:10, 11: 10 “And the third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp, and it fell upon the third part of the rivers, and upon the fountains of waters; 11 And the name of the star is called Wormwood: and the third part of the waters became wormwood; and many men died of the waters, because they were made bitter.”
Historically the Third Trumpet was Attila and he brought with him the Huns. Attila the Hun was the Third Trumpet and the Bible says that he came from the fountains of waters—the fresh water. The First Trumpet destroyed the Earth—the Earth was smitten; the Second destroyed the Sea—the Sea is smitten; the Third Trumpet—the Fresh Waters, the fountains of waters. Attila comes from the Alps and attacked. Alaric came from the cold regions of the North; Genseric, the hot regions of North Africa, and Attila from the springs and fountains of waters—from the Alps.
The Earth smitten; the Sea smitten; then the Fresh waters were smitten. One thing about the Third trumpet is that Attila is called Wormwood—now what is Wormwood? It is a bitter herb. Why was Attila called Wormwood? Why were Attila’s actions more bitter than Alaric or Genseric? It wasn’t just warfare that Attila brought; he subjugated the government of Rome. Notice this statement from the Seer of Patmos by Haskell, pg. 155:
"The third angel sounded, and there fell a great star from heaven, burning as it were a lamp." For nearly one hundred years previous to the final downfall of Rome, the Huns, one of the wildest of the Scythian tribes, had pressed upon the empire, spreading themselves from the Volga to the Danube. For a time they commanded the alternative of peace or war, with both the eastern and western divisions of the empire. In the days of AETIUS, a general of the West, sixty thousand Huns marched to the confines of Italy; but retreated when paid the sum which they cared to demand. Theodosius, the emperor of the East, bought peace by paying an annual tribute of three hundred and fifty pounds of gold, and bestowing the title of general upon the king of the Huns. There was still a senate at Rome, and it purchased peace of the Huns. This was a part of the "wormwood" which Rome was caused to drink. In 433 Attila and his brother became joint rulers of the barbarians, and in a treaty with the emperor, the Huns "dictated the conditions of peace; each condition was an insult on the majesty of the empire. Besides the freedom of a safe and plentiful market on the banks of the Danube, they required that the annual contribution should be augmented from three hundred and fifty pounds of gold to seven hundred pounds of gold; that a fine, or ransom, of eight pieces of gold should be paid for every Roman captive who had escaped from his
5
barbarian master; that the emperor should renounce all treaties and engagements with the enemies of the Huns; and that all the fugitives who had taken refuge in the court, or provinces of Theodosius, should be delivered to the justice of their offended sovereign." Thus was the Roman Empire made to realize that its power was gone, and that the proud Romans were subject to the most cruel of all barbarians. This was "wormwood” indeed.” p. 155.
When we look at what Attila did, not only was he a terrible Barbarian, not only did he kill and destroy, but he put Rome under subjugation. This was Wormwood—Rome had to drink the bitter cup.

The Third Trumpet—Huns
Attila—429–451
“It is here premised that this trumpet has allusion to the desolating wars and furious invasions of Attila against the Roman power, which he carried on at the head of his hordes of Huns.” Uriah Smith, Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation, 486.
So the Earth was smitten, the Sea was smitten, the Fresh Waters were smitten, so what else was left? The Air was left. Notice what the Bible says in Revelation 8:12: “And the fourth angel sounded, and the third part of the sun was smitten, and the third part of the moon, and the third part of the stars; so as the third part of them was darkened, and the day shone not for a third part of it, and the night likewise.”
The Bible shows very clear that they destroyed the Earth, they destroyed the Sea, destroyed the Fresh Waters and now the Heavens are smitten—that’s complete destruction. Western Rome was brought to its end and the Fourth Trumpet is Odoacer.

The Fourth Trumpet—Heruli
Odoacer—476
We understand that this trumpet symbolizes the career of Odoacer, the barbarian monarch who was so intimately connected with the downfall of Western Rome. The symbols sun, moon, and stars—for they are undoubtedly here used as symbols—evidently denote the great luminaries of the Roman government,—its emperors, senators, and consuls. Bishop Newton remarks that the last emperor of Western Rome was Romulus, who in derision was called Augustulus, or the ‘diminutive Augustus.’ Western Rome fell A.D. 476.” Uriah Smith, Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation, 488.
In 476 Odoacer sat upon the Emperor’s throne and the barbarians took control of Western Rome. In the year 476 Western Rome was destroyed, divided and split into the Ten Horns. When you look at Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation by Uriah Smith it gives you the understanding of what the Sun, Moon and Stars represented. It represented the Roman government, its Emperors, senators and consuls.
So the total government of Rome was not only subjugated as in the days of Attila, but brought to an end by Odoacer and divided into ten powers.
Out of those Ten Horns in Daniel 7, three were to be uprooted and the Little Horn was to arise. So when the Pagan Western Roman Empire disintegrated and split into ten, three horns were uprooted and the Papacy rises. So now we have the Papacy on the West but still Pagan Rome on the East. The first four Trumpets bring down Western Pagan Rome and we’ll see how the Fifth and Sixth Trumpets bring down Eastern Rome and the Papacy in the West.
Again we are just focusing on the History of the Trumpets. This history is something that is being denied as we speak today; our church today does not believe in the historical teachings of the Trumpets. That is a sad thing because that is the very foundation of Adventism.
6
Revelation 8:13: “And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!”
In chapter 9 we go into the Woes:
“For an exposition of this trumpet, we shall again draw from the writings of Mr. Keith. This writer truthfully says: ‘There is scarcely so uniform an agreement among interpreters concerning any other part of the Apocalypse as respecting the application of the fifth and sixth trumpets, or the first and second woes, to the Saracens and Turks.’ It is so obvious that it can scarcely be misunderstood. Instead of a verse or two designating each, the whole of the ninth chapter of the Revelation in equal portions, is occupied with a description of both.” Uriah Smith, Thoughts on Daniel and the Revelation, 488.
Revelation 9:1 “And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit. 2 And he opened the bottomless pit; and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit. 3 And there came out of the smoke locusts upon the earth: and unto them was given power, as the scorpions of the earth have power. 4 And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.
5 “And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man. 6 And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.”
Now notice this:
7 “And the shapes of the locusts were like unto horses prepared unto battle; and on their heads were as it were crowns like gold, and their faces were as the faces of men. 8 And they had hair as the hair of women, and their teeth were as the teeth of lions. 9 And they had breastplates, as it were breastplates of iron; and the sound of their wings was as the sound of chariots of many horses running to battle.”
Again remember the constant reference that these trumpets are represented as horses prepared for battle—war horses—angry horses.
10 “And they had tails like unto scorpions, and there were stings in their tails: and their power was to hurt men five months. 11 And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is Abaddon, but in the Greek tongue hath his name Apollyon. 12 One woe is past; and, behold, there come two woes more hereafter.”
There is much history in these Woes, let’s start with verse 1: “And the fifth angel sounded, and I saw a star fall from heaven unto the earth: and to him was given the key of the bottomless pit.”

The Fifth Trumpet—Saracens
The First Woe: Arabic Islam
Mohammed—628: the battle of Nineveh
The pioneers correctly understood that the first Woe is Arabic Islam. And the Star who fell from heaven and was represented as the ‘he’ who received the Key of the Bottomless Pit, was Mohamed.
The ‘Key’ of the Bottomless Pit was the Battle of Nineveh in the year 628. It was a battle between the East and the West; a battle between Rome and Persia. Rome and Persia were both too powerful for the Mohametans to overcome. Without getting into too much detail in the story of this battle, Mohamed waited until there was a war between Rome and Persia.
Rome made the very perilous journey, after being subjugated by Persia. It agreed to the demands of Persia in order to buy time. So Rome bought time and took this very perilous journey around the
7
Black Sea into the very back-yard of Persia and struck. The Persian army was destroyed, but it didn’t help Rome, because the Roman army was so depleted that this was the ‘key’—the battle that unlocked Mohametism upon the earth. Rome’s armies were destroyed; Persia’s armies were destroyed; nothing was in the way now of Islam—this was the ‘Key’, the Battle of Nineveh.
This was a battle of the East against the West; remember to mark that point.
The Bible says in Revelation 9:2 that “he opened the Bottomless Pit and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkened by reason of the smoke of the pit.”
The Pioneers understood correctly this smoke to be the religion of Islam. It covered the air and the sun—a representation of the Holy Spirit and of Christ—the true Gospel. So it eclipsed the sun and the air by reason of the smoke. The Bible tells us this Saracen or Islamic army was given the power to hurt for five month, which in Bible prophecy comes to 150 years.
This began on July 27, 1299 from the time that the Bible tells us they ‘had a king over them’.
Othman—July 27, 1299: invasion of Nicomedia
As you move through the first 12 verses of Revelation 9 you have the time of Mohamed; Mohamed dies and Abu Becker takes over. He was the one who gave the command found in verse 4, He told his armies to go and destroy those with shaven heads but to leave alone the ones who kept to themselves in the valleys and rocks and those were the Waldenses, the Sabbath keepers, since they had the Seal of God.
So it moves from Mohamed, to Abu Becker, and then to Othman, Commencing July 27, 1299, the one hundred and fifty years reach to 1449. During that whole period the Turks were engaged in an almost perpetual warfare with the Greek empire, but yet without conquering it. They seized upon and held several of the Greek provinces, but still Greek independence was maintained in Constantinople. But in 1449, the termination of the one hundred and fifty years, a change came, the history of which will be found under the succeeding trumpet.
Under the First Woe they were given power to hurt the Eastern Roman Empire; they were restrained—they could go so far but no further. Then we come to the Second Woe, the Sixth Trumpet.
Revelation 9:13 “And the sixth angel sounded, and I heard a voice from the four horns of the golden altar which is before God, 14 Saying to the sixth angel which had the trumpet, Loose the four angels which are bound in the great river Euphrates. 15 And the four angels were loosed, which were prepared for an hour, and a day, and a month, and a year, for to slay the third part of men. 16 And the number of the army of the horsemen were two hundred thousand thousand: and I heard the number of them.
17 “And thus I saw the horses in the vision, and them that sat on them, having breastplates of fire, and of jacinth, and brimstone: and the heads of the horses were as the heads of lions; and out of their mouths issued fire and smoke and brimstone. 18 By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.
19 “For their power is in their mouth, and in their tails: for their tails were like unto serpents, and had heads, and with them they do hurt. 20 And the rest of the men which were not killed by these plagues yet repented not of the works of their hands, that they should not worship devils, and idols of gold, and silver, and brass, and stone, and of wood: which neither can see, nor hear, nor walk: 21 Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.”
The Fifth Trumpet—Saracens; The First Woe: Arabic Islam
They are given a Time Prophecy of 150 years beginning with Othman—July 27, 1299: invasion of Nicomedia, which brings us to July 27, 1449.
We move onto the Sixth Trumpet, the Second Woe and it is still Islam, but now it is the Ottoman Empire—Turkish Islam. Islam is still the Woe power. It began its Time Prophecy of 391
8
years and 15 days—in verse 15—and hour; a day; a month and a year, but this time they are loosed. They are restrained for the hundred and fifty years when they were only given power to hurt, but now they are loosed and given power to kill and to slay the third part of men. This time extends from July 27 1449 until August 11, 1840.
The four ‘angels’ which were loosed were the four principle sultans of Turkish Islam situated at Aleppo, Iconium, Damascus, and Bagdad. Islam was loose on the earth and they were given power to kill and under the Second Woe, Constantinople in the East comes down.
In verse 18 we see the way it came down; 18 “By these three was the third part of men killed, by the fire, and by the smoke, and by the brimstone, which issued out of their mouths.” The fire, smoke and brimstone constitute gunpowder and they used explosives to bring down Constantinople, which in 1453 comes to an end.
But the sixth trumpet is not finished; the East has been taken care of but we have the power which arose in the West—the Papacy. The Papacy needs to be dealt with.
Revelation 9:21 “Neither repented they of their murders, nor of their sorceries, nor of their fornication, nor of their thefts.” This brings us to the end of the 391 years and 15 days and picks up the story in Revelation 10:1:
“And I saw another mighty angel come down from heaven, clothed with a cloud: and a rainbow was upon his head, and his face was as it were the sun, and his feet as pillars of fire:”
This was the empowerment of the message of the Millerites on August 11, 1840. The Angel that came down with the ‘Little Book’ of Daniel open in His hand was Jesus Christ. This history of Revelation 10, the Seven Thunders, we have seen repeats to the very letter but still there is no reference to the end of the Sixth Trumpet.
As you go into Chapter 11 we see the history of the French Revolution and it is out of this history that we see the Little Horn power of Daniel 8 is brought down with the deadly wound. This is still under the time of the Sixth Trumpet.

The Sixth Trumpet—Turks & France
The Second Woe: Islam & Atheism
Napoleon—1798
In verse 14 of Revelation 11 we have the end of the Second Woe. “The second woe is past; and, behold, the third woe cometh quickly.”
So the Fifth Trumpet that brings the First Woe is Arabic Islam. It’s given power to hurt.
The Sixth Trumpet, the Second Woe brings the power to kill and slay the third part of men. This was not only Turkish Islam but this was Atheism as well. The time period was July 27, 1449-August 11, 1840. The power of Atheism brought down the Little Horn on the West.
Bible Prophecy tells us that this Little Horn power would have a resurrection; hence God reserves one more Trumpet, the Seventh Trumpet.
One thing we want to identify is that the Woes play a triple application in Bible Prophecy. In the Woes, the Fifth and Sixth Trumpets there are two lines represented there, two prophetic teachings. Notice Revelation 9:4: “And it was commanded them that they should not hurt the grass of the earth, neither any green thing, neither any tree; but only those men which have not the seal of God in their foreheads.”
In the First Woe, the Fifth Trumpet, there is a sealing time that is represented there.
Then we stop in Revelation 10 and this is something we have to understand about the Trumpets and this is something that some of the pioneers understood and that was a principle brought to view in chapter 8:13. “And I beheld, and heard an angel flying through the midst of heaven, saying with a loud
9
voice, Woe, woe, woe, to the inhabiters of the earth by reason of the other voices of the trumpet of the three angels, which are yet to sound!”
So the last three Trumpets, the Fifth, Sixth, and Seventh Trumpets, the 1st, 2nd and 3rd
When we come to chapter 10, there was an understanding of the Millerites that when we come to August 11, 1840, the Sixth Trumpet ceased. But we have a prophetic understanding that they did not have. There is a history of 1840-1844 that must repeat. If we don’t have the history of 1840-1844 within the Sixth Trumpet, that history will not repeat under the time period of the seventh Trumpet. The Sixth Trumpet continued to sound, but the Woe ceased August 11, 1840. Woe, by reason of their sounding they bring with them the Woe—it’s a cause and effect. The Trumpet sounds and then a Woe comes; in a sense it is making a break between the Trumpets and the Woes even though they are connected. The Trumpet sounds, the Woe comes by reason of the sounding of the Trumpet.
We want to notice this excerpt from the vision of William Foy:

EXCERPT FROM WILLIAM FOY’S SECOND VISION ON FEBRUARY 4, 1842

“Near the place through which we passed I beheld a mighty angel clothed in pure white raiment, having a crown of brightness on his head. He appeared to be gazing through the bar, and his eyes like lamps of fire, were fixed with steadfastness upon the earth. He stood with his right foot placed before him, as though walking; and his object appeared to be, to reach the earth. But three steps remained for him to take. Against his breast, and across his left hand, was as it were, a trumpet of pure silver; and a great and terrible voice came from the midst of the boundless place, saying, ‘The sixth angel hath not yet done sounding.’”
The Sixth angel had not finished sounding and it was the understanding that on August 11, 1840 the Sixth Angel was done, but the vision from heaven said the Sixth angel had not yet finished sounding. The Sixth Trumpet ceased when the Seventh Trumpet began on October 22, 1844.
The history from August 11, 1840-October 22, 1844, it was that particular piece of history that the pioneers did not understand, and included there prophetically was the Seven Thunders and it was sealed to them—they had no understanding of what was transpiring there because they were living it as it was going forward in time.
This crucial piece of history we’ve seen represented by the foundations of many generations, the great prophetic movements of prophecy, this was a Sealing Time.

A Sealing Time—1840 through 1844

It was based upon the increase of light that came to them. It was a sealing time and the wise virgins and the foolish virgins were being sealed. Either they were sealed in Christ or sealed out of Christ. This was under the Sixth Trumpet.
So under the Fifth Trumpet you have a sealing time represented; under the Sixth Trumpet you have a sealing time represented; therefore when we do the Triple Application of Prophecy—and to make it simple think of it this way, 1+2=3—the first history plus the second history equals the third history.
There’s a sealing time in the First Woe; there’s a sealing time in the Second Woe; so there is a sealing time in the Third Woe.

The Empowerment of the Message of the Hour

“The termination of the hour, day, month and year of the sixth angel marks the conclusion of the second woe, August 11, 1840. Revelation 9:15.
(We know that on August 11, 1840, the message of the Millerites, the movement was empowered. It was a message from the Woes that empowered the movement.)
“At the close of the sixth angel’s voice a mighty angel descends from heaven to herald the sounding of the seventh trumpet. He has a little book open in his hand; and he places his right foot upon the sea, and his left foot on the earth, and cries with a loud voice, as when a lion roareth. The seven

thunders utter their voices, but John is forbidden to write what they utter. The angel, having made proclamation to the inhabitants of the earth, lifts his hand to heaven, and swears that time shall be no longer, but that in the days of the beginning of the seventh angel’s voice the mystery of God should be finished, as he hath declared to his servants the prophets. Revelation10:1–7. J. N. Andrews, The Judgment, its Events and Their Order, 56.

WOE MESSAGE EMPOWERS THE MILLERITES

“In the year 1840 another remarkable fulfillment of prophecy excited widespread interest. Two years before, Josiah Litch, one of the leading ministers preaching the second advent, published an exposition of Revelation 9, predicting the fall of the Ottoman Empire. . . .
“At the very time specified, Turkey, through her ambassadors, accepted the protection of the allied powers of Europe, and thus placed herself under the control of Christian nations. The event exactly fulfilled the prediction. When it became known, multitudes were convinced of the correctness of the principles of prophetic interpretation adopted by Miller and his associates, and a wonderful impetus was given to the advent movement. Men of learning and position united with Miller, both in preaching and in publishing his views, and from 1840 to 1844 the work rapidly extended.” The Great Controversy, 332–335.
So the Advent Movement was empowered by the message from the Woes. So under a triple application of prophecy, when the Third Woe time period we should see an empowerment of the movement based on an understanding of the Woes. There is a sealing time represented and an empowerment represented.

To the Very Letter
“I am often referred to the parable of the ten virgins, five of whom were wise, and five foolish. This parable has been and will be fulfilled to the very letter.” Review and Herald, August 19, 1890.
This history—fulfilled to the very letter. If there was a sealing, and empowerment at that time, it will be repeated to the very letter in our day.
That process began in September 11, 2001.
Now we will go through the Triple Application of Prophecy; remember that the history of the first, plus the history of the second, equals the history of the third.
Interestingly enough, Islam has an understanding of the Woes, but they call them the Great Jihads. They have the First Jihad, the Second Jihad, and the Third, and the Third Jihad is the final war in their understanding. The First Jihad was the same time as the first Biblical Woe.
The First Woe: First Great Jihad
Islam: Arabia—Mohamed
THE KEY: Empowered after war between East and West: Daniel 11:40. (This was repeated in our day as the war between East and West—USSR and the USA and that was the KEY that unlocked Islam, and in 2001 Islam struck.)
Mode of warfare: strike suddenly and unexpectedly
Focus of warfare: the armies of Rome
Directed by their tails:
The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. Isaiah 9:15. Islam is directed by their false prophets, their Imams, the ones who give the teachings of Islam.
Providential force that tormented (HURTS) the armies of Rome
The Fifth Trumpet: Hurt not those who have the seal of God. We see a sealing time represented.
This is the First Woe—the First Great Jihad.
11
History
From Mohamed to July 27, 1299 and then until July 27, 1449
The Second Woe: Second Great Jihad
Islam: Turkey—Othman
Mode of warfare: strike suddenly and unexpectedly with explosives. Gunpowder is invented and they use explosives to bring down the armies they are fighting.
Focus of warfare: the armies of Rome
Directed by their heads and tails:
The ancient and honourable, he is the head; and the prophet that teacheth lies, he is the tail. Isaiah 9:15.
Providential force that brought down (KILLS) Imperial (pagan) Rome. First they hurt the armies of Rome, then the restraint was let loose and they were given power to kill.
The Sixth Trumpet: 1840 through 1844. This was a sealing time again.
History
From July 27, 1449 until August 11, 1840 and then through October 22, 1844
The First History plus the Second History equals the Third History.

The Third Woe: Third Great Jihad

September 11, 2001, whether we want to understand that or not, Islam understands it and on that date began the Third and Final Jihad. Read more about the third great Jihad from independent source here
Islam: Worldwide—Bin Laden
Mode of warfare: strike suddenly and unexpectedly with explosives
Focus of warfare: the armies of Rome. The United States of America—who came together with the Harlot Woman to bring down the USSR by means of our horses and chariots—our military, and our economic strength and thus it took the role of the armies of Rome.
Directed by their heads and tails
Providential force that torments (FIRST HURTS) the army of Rome and then brings down (KILLS) modern Rome: the dragon, the beast and the false prophet.
The Seventh Trumpet; The Investigative Judgment

History
From October 22, 1844 until September 11, 2001 until Michael stands up
Revelation 13:11 “And I beheld another beast coming up out of the earth; and he had two horns like a lamb, and he spake as a dragon.”
Who is this beast? It is United States of America. When it rose to power in its infancy, those two powers represented its two powers of church and state being separate, Republicanism and Protestantism. But when it begins to speak as a Dragon, those powers change to military might and economic power.
Revelation 13:15 “And he had power to give life unto the image of the beast, that the image of the beast should both speak, and cause that as many as would not worship the image of the beast should be killed.” Military Power—Force.
16 “And he causeth all, both small and great, rich and poor, free and bond, to receive a mark in their right hand, or in their foreheads: 17 And that no man might buy or sell, save he that had the mark, or the name of the beast, or the number of his name.” Economic Power.
Military and economic power. And it just so happens that on September 11, 2001, the economic power was hit—the World Trade Center; and the military power of United States was struck—the
12
Pentagon. Why didn’t the third plane hit? It would have destroyed the pattern. God is the One Who is orchestrating events.
We have read the statement that the Holy Spirit is not only involved in the giving of the prophecy but in the events portrayed. God is at work, but Adventism continues to sleep on.
On September 11, 2001 the Third Woe begins, the Third Great Jihad. First they were given power to hurt. On September 11, 2001 the world was hurt, the United States was hurt. But when God lets them do what they are supposed to do prophetically, not only will they hurt, but they will slay and kill and they will destroy.
The Bible says by the providence of God, that won’t transpire until the God’s people are sealed in their foreheads.
The Seventh Trumpet brings with it the Investigative Judgment. October 22, 1844 when the Seventh Trumpet began to sound, Christ went from the Holy to the Most Holy Place. We are living in a sealing time. On September 11, 2001, God empowered the Advent Movement again by a Woe. If we don’t understand that, we will never, ever be gathered. We will never be considered God’s Remnant People who will give the final cry.
We have been given great light, and may God help us to improve upon that light or we will be the first to be left by the Holy Spirit. We need to understand that God is the same yesterday, today and always, and He always works the same. The Patterns in the Bible are for us that we might see the times in which we are living and awake from our lethargy. We are now living in the time of the judgment of the living and our sins must be sent before hand to the judgment that they may be blotted out.

  1. It is interesting to note that the 1st 2nd and 3rd woe which is the 5th 6th and 7th trumpet represented as Islamic in nature is only mention in Revelation Chapters 9 and 11 only (911). Chapter ten talks about God people how they should be in the end living righteous preparing for his coming specifically Rev 10:7 says that the mystery of God should be finished.
What is the mystery of God? Collosians 1:25-38 tells us.. It is the Christ in us. The sealing of His character should be completed at the end of the sounding of 7th trumpet or the 3rd woe.

  2. It is also interesting to note how Islam start . Mohammed came from the Araian desert A Place that was ignored with previous civilation , within that empty wasteland mohammed live in the city of mecca. he love to walk alone in the hills and it was on one of theses walks he claimed to have met the angel gariel. I think that the devil was who he acually met ,note how they dont actknowelge Jesus as the son of God. The devil hates Jesus and told him That Jesus is not God ,the devil loves to put Jesus down , when he appeared to this man he told him to start this religion ,a religion whitout Jesus as the center stone . and just look at the fifth trumpet how is tells of a star falling from heaven ,opening up the ottomless pit and a smoke arose out of it . the ottomless pit means wasleland a place without civilation . a star falling from heaven could mean the devil . compare the fifth trumpet and the way how islam starts.
